I am a 50 year old male living in Scotland and my wife is 43.

When I met Ian, although I didn’t consider myself unfit or over weight for my age, I knew I wasn’t as fit and healthy as I had been and that I needed to make some life changes but had no idea what I was going to do.  I enjoy food and drink, end of! I knew of Thrive and was keen to look at the methods used to see if I could improve my life without too many changes.  After the initial consultation, I was back in Scotland and full of the ideas Ian had fed me.  Every problem or question I had, even though I was some 350 miles away, I was able to communicate with Ian just to clarify or iron out points.  The first few weeks of the programme were not easy as my body was getting a shock.

I am over 6ft and was 18 stone.  My waist was 40+ inches and although still able to play rugby and pass fitness tests, I was finding it difficult and got out of breath quickly but I put that down to getting old.  After just two weeks my trousers no longer fitted me, I had lost 2 inches in my waist and unfortunately (fortunately…) had to purchase all new trousers and jeans.  With a minimum amount of extra exercise, I found my body shape had changed, fat had gone, muscle had returned and my general health had improved.  I previously had a repeat prescription for a stomach complaint, this was stopped due to the change in lifestyle.

As the weeks went on, I lost a total of 4 inches in my waist and 2 and a half stones in weight. My wife noticed the improvement in me as did other family members and she too took on the lifestyle change with help from Ian.  She now has a new wardrobe as the old clothes hang off her.

Ian was honest and realistic about what could and could not be achieved. He even understood that on holiday you can indulge but cut back when you return. Over the festive period I indulged but within a few weeks was back to the smaller me.  Distance was not a problem.
